New Store: Intertwined Workshop
As part of Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week, the New Store is inviting designer and weaver Pollyanna Moss to lead the Intertwined workshop. Join us for a spin at the Nieuwe Instituut and learn all about the box charkha and how it can be used to spin human or animal hair.
11 October 2025 08:00 - 10:00
The box charkha, a portable hand-spinning wheel, became a symbol of self-reliance and economic independence during India’s struggle for independence. Pollyanna Moss has put a new spin on the box charkha, by using materials from people and their pets to spin with.
If your furry friend sheds a lot of hair, bring it to the workshop and create beautiful textiles from it. Your pet’s hair can be short – for example, what comes loose when you brush it. Longer lengths are better for human hair, but short hair can also be used. The workshop is also open to participants who don’t bring their own hair.
Box charkha expert Madhav Sahasrabud will join the workshop virtually to share more insights into this fascinating spinning method.
Language: Dutch | Location: Nieuwe Instituut | Tickets: € 12,50 / 7,50 / 0,-
