New Store Sessions met The Linen Project
This spring, the Nieuwe Instituut collaborated on the 1m2 Vlas project by selling flax kits in the New Store 3.0. The kits, developed by the Linen Project, enabled people to sow their own flax on a square metre of land. Now it’s time to harvest.
31 August 2025 07:30 - 13:30
The 1m2 Vlas project was established to revitalise local textile production and raise awareness of the textile production process. Participants in the 1m2 Vlas project bring the flax they have grown at home to the Nieuwe Instituut. They will work on processing the plants by breaking, scutching and hackling – ancient techniques used to extract the fibres from the stems. At the end of the day, they will take their processed flax home, ready for the next step: spinning.
As this New Store Session focuses on the processing of the previously grown flax, this event is exclusively for current participants. However, curious passers-by are welcome to come and take a look.
There are no tickets available.
Sold outAbout the Linen Project
The Linen Project explores how the flax and linen production chain can serve as a model for a new economic system, one that revolves around values such as collaboration, care, proximity, sustainability, reciprocity and appreciation for everyone involved, rather than money and growth.
About New Store Sessions
New Store Sessions are recurring evenings where we explore the developments and background of the New Store in greater depth. Lectures and discussions with experts from various fields explore what a regenerative store could look like.
