-1 is a dynamic new gallery at Nieuwe Instituut that is part laboratory, part exhibition space, where local and international digital makers develop and share work on critical issues in digital culture. As we prepare to venture beyond the digital, we are assembling a diverse and dynamic crew, and we believe you are the missing piece to our cosmic puzzle. Where do you want to go today?

What Awaits You
A Portal to the Imagination You’ll be granted entry into -1, where you can explore the impact of technological change on people, culture, society and planet, as well as create new narratives for computing elsewhere and otherwise.
Knowledge Questing Unlock access to exciting research in digital culture. On display are works-in-process by our inaugural class of -1 artists-in-residence: Sondi, Philipp Groubnov, Victoria McKenzie, and Karim Fouad.
Squadron Solidarity Join our “squad” and form lifelong bonds with fellow crew members as we navigate the mysteries of digital culture. Our mission is not just about art and technology; we embrace the entanglement of people, places, and ideas that nurture critical conversations about our current technological climate.
When I was a child, I wrote that I would do great things. I could not know then that the only promise I would keep was the promise to do great things.
Dress Code
Casual space and science fiction attire is not required but feel free to embrace your inner cosmic or digital explorer if you so desire!
Special Note
Please be aware that this journey will last several years, during which we'll encounter the unknown and face challenges that will test our mettle. However, the rewards of discovery, the bonds forged, and the knowledge gained will be immeasurable. We cannot wait to welcome you aboard!
