Janno Lanjouw on the best of 5 years Food Filmfestival
27 August 2015 20:00 - 22:00
The first Lecture Night of the new cultural season is entirely devoted to food. Janno Lanjouw, programme director of the Food Filmfestival, will serve up the tastiest, scariest and funniest fragments from the past five years in an interactive presentation.
Lanjouw sketches a comprehensive picture of the many aspects of food: pleasure, hunger, modern agriculture with all its virtues and vices, the effect of food hypes on the environment, what happens to the human brain when we eat, and the world of haute cuisine.

Chef Gilbert Kolff
Gilbert Kolff earned his culinary spurs in the kitchens of renowned restaurants such as Commerç 24* (Barcelona), Mugaritz** (Basque Country) and De Harmonie (Rotterdam). In recent years at FONDrotterdam he has focussed on creating dishes with a story, often tailored to the theme of a particular event. Whether with a conceptual twist or a socially engaged message, he always retains the food's pure flavours.
The Mansholt Letter
This Lecture Night focuses on the Mansholt Letter project. In the context of the World Expo in Milan, the theme of which is 'Feeding the Planet', farmers, scientists, designers and politicians from all over the world are gathering to discuss ways to make our food system more sustainable. Inspiration for this discussion was the urgent letter sent to the European Commission by former Agriculture Commissioner Sicco Mansholt in 1972. In his letter he called for a radical change of ecological direction in European agriculture. Although he never received a reply, his appeal has not lost any of its urgency. Quite the contrary in fact. Follow the public study on http://themansholtletter.hetnieuweinstituut.nl
Food Filmfestival
The Food Filmfestival screens films about food to make us more aware of the role of food in our lives. The festival allows us to enjoy what we eat - especially good food - but also warns us about the negative aspects of the modern food system. The Food Filmfestival has been in existence for five years: a perfect moment to take stock!
