Todopia

'Todopia 'is a semi-mobile living / workspace designed by artist Reinier Kranendonk. Through 'Todopia 'he makes a plea for independent and self-sufficient existence. The various objects within this living / workspace allow the audience to identify with an autarkic way of life.

Todopia - Reinier Kranendonk

The objects are composed of materials found and upcycled by Kranendonk, divided into three groups with corresponding colours. These basic components for creating a living / workspace function autonomously and off-grid in every urban area or dwelling. Simultaneously they are dependent on rainwater, sunlight and earth, which guarantees a grounded relationship with their direct environment. Todopia's roots lie in squatting culture and festival grounds, and it is affiliated to the 'Temporary Autonomous Zone' (TAZ) by anarchist and freethinker Hakim Bey.

Todopia's three colours and principles are:
Blue (water): rainwater and clean comfort
White (gas): oxygen, heat and cooking
Green (energy): food, life energy and electricity

Reinier Kranendonk

Artist Reinier Kranendonks' fascination with the relationship between nature and industry stem from his youth. During his studies at the AKI art academy in Enschede he founded OffMess, a space where he and his friends developed exhibitions, side events and parties. OffMess was closed down in 2009. During his master's studies at the Dirty Art Department of the Sandberg Instituut, he founded PostNorma, a project space disconnected from water, electricity and gas mains. To overcome these specific conditions he designed Todopia.
