Ore Streams with Formafantasma
On 3 March 2017 Design duo Formafantasma presented their research into global ore flows, from overground mining to e-waste. In conversation with curator Natasha Hoare, they investigated the relationship of designers and institutions in highlighting the landscape of mining and manufacture. This dialogue questioned the "immateriality" in digital design enabled by metal ores. Curator Natasha Hoare and artist Giuseppe Licare joined the discussion. Moderator was Tamar Shafrir (Het Nieuwe Instituut).

Studio Formafantasma
Andrea Trimarchi and Simone Farresin are Studio Formafantasma, an Italian designer duo based in Amsterdam. Formafantasma's work is characterised by experimental material investigations, explorations of the relationship between tradition and local culture, critical approaches to sustainability, and reflections on the significance of objects as cultural conduits.
Natasha Hoare
Natasha Hoare is a curator at Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam. She co-curated the shows Art In The Age Of...Energy and Raw Material and Art In The Age Of...Asymmetrical Warfare and edited the accompanying publication, _Art in the Age Of& _(2015). The year-long programme investigated the production and circulation of art through contemporary economic, material, and technological networks.
Giuseppe Licari
Giuseppe Licari studied at the AKI in Enschede and the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. He develops projects related to industrial and natural heritage, often on location, including in Sicily, Rotterdam, and Idaho, and in collaboration with partners such as the Natural History Museum Rotterdam, TU Delft or wildland firefighters.
Design Dialogues

The discussions take a close look at the designer's process from raw material to final object, exploring issues of aesthetic and technological change, ethical positions, sustainable cycles, and innovation in how objects perform and interact.
