Open Call Prix de Rome Architecture 2026
The Prix de Rome Architecture is a competition for architects, urban designers, landscape architects and other spatial design practitioners up to 40 years of age. For the 2026 edition, proposals can be submitted until 23 February.
9 February 2026
As with previous editions, the jury will select four candidates for the shortlist. After a four-month working period, the shortlisted candidates will present their results in an exhibition at the Nieuwe Instituut. The winner will receive a €60,000 award and support for an international residency of their choice.
Theme: Terminal Velocity
The theme of the Prix de Rome Architecture 2026 is Terminal Velocity. The jury sees tension between architecture’s promise of a better life through design and reality. As the world it helped construct expands beyond its grasp, the slow and plodding practice of architecture seems to struggle to keep pace. How can architecture fulfil its promise again? For what purpose? And for whom?
Visit the grant schemes page on the website of the Creative Industries Fund NL for more information.
The presentation of the proposals by the four nominees will be on display at the Nieuwe Instituut from 4 December 2026 to 9 May 2027.
Prix de Rome Architecture
The Prix de Rome Architecture is organised every four years by the Creative Industries Fund NL. It's commissioned by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Through this competition, the Fund aims to identify, encourage and support promising architects, urban designers, landscape architects and other spatial practitioners in their professional development and visibility. At the same time, the award contributes to innovation within the field and fuels the debate on the role of architecture and spatial design in society.
