On 17 July, Minister Ingrid van Engelshoven of the Department of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) issued a disbursement letter based on the 'Disclosing Architecture' masterplan officially allocating the first half of the 11 million euros awarded in March for the restoration, conservation and digitisation of Het Nieuwe Instituut's collection.

The archive of architect Evert Jelles has recently been catalogued and digitised. Jelles was a leading representative of the Dutch late Functionalist tradition in the period 1965-85 and is credited with rediscovering the work of Jan Duiker.

Director-General of Culture and Media of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science Barbera Wolfensberger has just opened WORK, BODY, LEISURE, the Dutch Pavilion at la Biennale di Venezia.

With the title WORK, BODY, LEISURE, the Dutch Pavilion at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia addresses the spatial configurations, modes of living, and notions of the human body engendered by disruptive changes in labor ethos and conditions.

The digital world has become increasingly involved in collections, archives and libraries: first with the digitisation of huge amounts of analogue material, then more recently with the arrival of born-digital material.

2017 was the centenary of the founding of De Stijl, with numerous exhibitions in the Netherlands and abroad that featured works borrowed from the collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut. Loans are important for the mobility of the collection, but they also pose risks to the condition of the objects. To ensure their optimum condition, for the time being works by Theo van Doesburg from the collection will no longer be loaned to other institutions.

Het Nieuwe Instituut has recently acquired the archive of WiMBY!, a project initiated by Crimson Architectural Historians and Felix Rottenberg to raise the standard of the large-scale restructuring of the post-war neighbourhood Hoogvliet in Rotterdam. This project differed from other urban renewal projects in the Netherlands in its unconventional approach: socially inspired, bottom-up and with a focus on social and spatial infrastructure.

MVRDV is transferring its archive to Het Nieuwe Instituut. It is the first major archive to be added to the State Archive for Architecture that consists primarily of digital materials.
