Anonymous Allyship. Gabriel Fontana
In this game, players, coming from different generations and communities in Venice, have no visual cues to distinguish their teammates. Everyone wears a similar jersey, creating an outside appearance of a single, unified team. However, hidden clues change the dynamic. Anonymous Allyship explores how belonging influences feelings, behaviour and performance in a group. It was shot at Venezia FC’s Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo. The work was commissioned by the Nieuwe Instituut on the occasion of the exhibition Sidelined: A Space to Rethink Togetherness, the Dutch contribution to the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale curated by Amanda Pinatih.
The Myth of the CiucciaNebbia
By reimagining pollution as the mythical CiucciaNebbia—a creature formed from industrial smog clinging to Milan’s buildings—Gaia D’Arrigo’s work explores how we embody the city’s toxic, industrial past and question our identity within its disrupted environment.
In my tender care
An expanded cinema installation chronicling the estrangement between Charlie and his mother. Originating from a screenplay, the installation seeks to give agency back to the audience by removing the chronology of a film’s timeline. Consisting of animatronic talking mouths in a set, a backdrop of looping and gently mutating animations, and an additional video work presented on a CRT TV screen, “In my tender care” presents turning points and whole acts simultaneously, locked in scenes that are scattered across the room. Exploring each scene will expose more of the story and they can be viewed in any order, moulding different interpretations of the work.
AI at the Gates of Hell
Meii Soh, 2024 Drawing on the intricate role of hunting dogs—simultaneously companions and tools in the act of hunting—and the author’s personal connection to these practices as a queer individual raised within this context, the work conveys a tense yet emotional atmosphere of affection and sensitivity towards hybrid futurity. While doing so, it introduces otherworldly creatures that dissolve the boundaries between technology and nature.

Lost and Scanned
What is digital reclamation, and what does it mean to interact with our intangible origins. What implications can a virtual repatriation have on the true ownership of heritage? Lost and Scanned is a speculative exploration of the use of digitised heritage. In this case, the British Museum’s open source library housing the Egyptian Collection. Karim Fouad (Egypt) is currently one of the artists in residence in -1.
“It is a place of contemplation, where we insert ourselves in a liminal space, between the museum in market nations, and the source nations (heritage-rich countries). We find ourselves in a transitional dreamscape beyond the curated glass vitrines. But a long way from home.”
