Hello PLASTIC
The exhibition _PLASTIC: Promises of a Home-made Future _started with the kick-off event 'Hello PLASTIC' on 23/10/14. An evening about the historical origin and cultural significance of plastic, and an inspiring glimpse into the future.
Once seen as the material of the future, plastic in recent decades has come to stand for increasing environmental pollution and blind consumer excess. But where would we be without computers, pacemakers, sneakers and chewing gum? (Plastic in chewing gum? Yes!) Plastic is truly everywhere. The evening's main speaker is Susan Freinkel, author of the revealing book 'Plastic, A Toxic Love Story'. A number of designers and researchers will also show inspiring examples of possible futures for plastic. Guests include: Maurizio Montalti, Perpetual Plastic Project, Michiel van der Kley from Project Egg, Tom van Aken from Avantium and Tal Erez.
