Long may we live!
The Frigate service flats (1980) Anton Alberts
Quality of life through variation
The Frigate service flats in the De Leyens neighbourhood of Zoetermeer were designed by Anton Alberts in the late 1970s. The private-sector apartments were aimed at wealthy pensioners. The sloping forms, in both the interior and exterior, play an important role in the experience of the design. Because many elderly people have difficulty walking and spend much of their time indoors, the interior is vary varied so that it provides visual interest. In addition to having a pleasant living environment, it is important for pensioners to be able to welcome visitors. For this reason the design incorporates parking places and rooms for receiving guests.
