The first high-rise nursing home

Osdorperhof was built in the 1960s in Osdorp, in the west of Amsterdam and was commissioned by the Reformed Foundation for the Nursing and Care of the Elderly. Designed by Pot & Pot-Keegstra, it was one of the many high-rise retirement homes built at the time. The eye-catching, thirteen-storey building accommodates 210 pensioners, many of whom have disabilities. The basement houses a nursing ward. The design is a typology typical of the era: a long internal corridor with rooms on either side. Each floor has eighteen to twenty rooms for single residents and two larger rooms for couples.
