A well-furnished home for the elderly

Stichting Goed Wonen (the Good Living Foundation) was founded in 1946 with the aim of raising the quality of life in the Netherlands by improving domestic interiors. Goed Wonen was against the small, stifling homes that had been built in previous decades and championed light, air, space and functional furniture. To demonstrate how its ideals could be achieved, Goed Wonen installed model homes, including some specially designed for the elderly. This model home shows how a well-furnished home for a pensioner should look. The floor should be easy to clean and the furniture is multifunctional: the sofa can be converted into a bed. Everything has been adapted for the elderly resident: from the placement of the light switches to the right kind of chair. To emphasise its message, the foundation published photographs of the model home featuring healthy pensioners who are fit enough to maintain the active lifestyle appropriate to such an interior.
