'Building without consultation'

Older people as a distinct and specific group were a subject of serious study after the Second World War. In 1963 the magazine Bejaardenwerk (Elderly Work) published an article that posited that each individual pensioner required suitable housing, but that their individual needs differed. Different types of housing are required, each with its own function and characteristics. The article warns against 'building without consultation' and advises integral planning: 'an awareness that the need for one type of accommodation is not random, but has an essential connection to the need for another type of accommodation.'
