Housing for the Elderly (1951) Friesland Foundation for Social Work
Research into the needs of the elderly
Much was written on the subject of housing for the elderly after the Second World War. This report discusses the relationship between housing and pensioners' specific needs. It includes advice on alarm systems, gardens and sanitary hygiene. The report makes a plea for more toilets within retirement homes so that residents can use the lavatory instead of a chamber pot, which was unhygienic and resulted in a penetrating smell in retirement homes. The report considered every aspect of every room in the home in order to ensure maximum safety and comfort for the residents.
