Talk Show 1: Re-thinking Innovation (20 April)
Innovation is often equated with speed, technology, and future promises. But what if we approached it differently—not as a race toward the next big thing, but as a cultural and relational process grounded in how we live, connect, and create?
Date: Sunday, 20 April 2025
Location: Event Space, Netherlands Pavilion
Time: 15:00-17:00
Admission: Free (with valid Expo ticket)
In this first Talk Show, four makers from Japan and the Netherlands explore innovation through the lens of daily practice, local context, and creative experimentation. How do we rethink innovation not just in terms of outcomes, but in the values and intentions that shape the process? What role can art, design, sound, or storytelling play in reshaping our sense of progress?
The Talk Show creates space for a shared conversation—shaped by individual projects, contrasting viewpoints, and a mutual desire to reflect together. Netherlands-based practitioners will also introduce their work through short and focused presentations, bringing concrete examples into the exchange.
This Talk Show features:
- Arne Hendriks (NL) – artist working on speculative, long-term research into the value of shrinking, growth, and collective imagination
- Arjan Rietveld (NL) – founder of Field Records, exploring the relationship between sound, place, and culture
- Hiroaki Koizumi (JP) – urban planner and founder of Lusie Co., Ltd., Real Kobe Estate, and the Eat Local Kobe movement. His work brings together food culture, community, and city-making through locally rooted initiatives.
- One more Japan-based participant to be confirmed
