Artificial sensors allow people to perceive their surroundings without the need for direct physical experience. Biological sensors - touch, taste, smell, sight - seem to be becoming increasingly less important. Nevertheless, sensory perception is an essential source of information for all organisms: plants and animals also 'understand' their environment in this way. Depending on their habitat and lifeform, they sometimes develop unique observational qualities.
The Extended Senses learning trail investigates whether the functioning of the senses can be enhanced, and how technological sensory capabilities can enrich perception.
