Studio PLOTT

Studio PLOTT recently built a 3D printer that is able to print textile-like structures of several square meters. Rudi Boiten and Mireille Burger are currently experimenting with printing graphic patterns that can best be compared to weaving, embroidery and macramé techniques. The prints are flexible, strong and light. So far, this process has resulted in a series of wall objects, curtains and panel curtains.

Photo Studio PLOTT

In Dressed by Architects, Studio PLOTT presents two projects: a façade curtain and a work titled Flying Architect, which is the result of a collaboration with designer Roos Meerman. The façade curtain responds directly to the architectural drawings from the collection of Het Nieuwe Instituut. Fragments of drawings by the structuralist architect Piet Blom have been incorporated into a new pattern, which is then printed. The façade curtain encloses the glass circle in Gallery -1 like a suit.

In collaboration with Roos Meerman and with the support of the Creative Industries Fund NL, Studio plott is developing the project Flying Architect. A shared fascination with 3D printing has given birth to the idea that it should be possible to build objects with a flying printer. Like a bird builds a nest, or a spider spins a web, the designers want to achieve an optimal freedom of form through which to connect architecture to clothing - two disciplines that seem to be drawing increasingly closer to each other. In Dressed by Architects, this research is made available through a live blog. Over the course of the exhibition, new results will be included in the presentation. In addition, the space is used for receiving guests.
