During the Salone de Mobile 2019 Lucy McRae will give a talk and demonstration of her work, Compression Cradle, in the Dutch presentation.

Through a choreography of touch sensations, this affectionate squeezing machine assists in altering the gene expression of oxytocin, a hormone released in the brain, responsible for building trust and pair bonding. The curators will also be present to explain more about the Dutch presentation at La Triennale di Milano.

Lucy McRae's art is driven by her interest in the future, technology and humanism. McRae strives to shift the landscape of how we might reimagine the human condition in a way that is relevant to society; challenging the viewers expectations of themselves. Her films and diverse installations place the human body in complex, futuristic scenarios that blur the boundaries between the natural and the artificial. By using fiction as a critical act to her creative process, McRae explores issues of who we are and where we may be headed, using storytelling to shape and power audience imagination. Her work plays on the edges of beauty, biotechnology and space travel; she invents visceral artworks that suggest what the future holds. McRae's diverse works in sculpture, film, photography and installations have been exhibited widely throughout the world. Her work has received international critical acclaim and has recently been exhibited at the London Science Museum, Centre Pompidou and the Venice Biennale. Trained in classical ballet and interior design, her approach is to merge scientific breakthroughs relating to health and the human body with fictional spatial narratives. McRae's artworks have been developed in collaboration with leading institutes including NASA, MIT and Ars Electronica.
