Future Thinkers Live #2: Designing the Future
This evening, hosted by the DesignDigger platform, explores the role of the designer in ‘future thinking’. Because designers can – or should – play a crucial role. But how? Through conversations with Julia Watson and Saskia Naafs, among others, and a screening of the film Cobalt, we explore the relevance of future thinking for design practice.
7 November 2024 18:30 - 20:05
Where and how do we live? What is the state of our work and health? How do we generate energy and what do we use to get around? Today’s society is changing rapidly and drastically, just think of climate change and technology. Exploring what the future will look like is more urgent than ever.
A wise designer is prepared for tomorrow – and that starts with thinking about the future. Thoughtful design not only offers solutions to today’s problems, but also takes tomorrow’s challenges into account. As a designer, how can you use speculative future scenarios and long-term forecasts? How do you assess the reliability and relevance of such thinking? And last but not least: how can you, as a designer, make your own valuable exploration of the future?
