Thursday Night Detour with Winston
On Thursday 4 August at 7pm, Detour Guide Winston Nanlohy shows us around 'Designing the Social'. During this free Thursday Night Detour, we explore what exactly 'the social' entails and what is meant by 'spatial appropriation', while discovering the voices represented in the exhibition.
4 August 2022 19:00 - 20:00
Winston Nanlohy
In his work, Winston focuses on film, concept development and research. For in-depth conversations about surveillance capitalism, feminist theory and social history, Winston is the man of the hour. His talent is translating complicated theories to all kinds of audiences. His favourite things are travelling with his daughters, doing research and striking up conversations with the people around him.
"During a Detour, I aim to use the knowledge of the group, and the knowledge in the exhibitions at Het Nieuwe Instituut, to find and create connections together."
Designing the Social: 100 years of Idiosyncratic Living in the Netherlands
How has design contributed to new forms of living, working and communicating in society? This question is central to the exhibition _Designing the Social_. Designers, researchers and curators have selected and reinterpreted pieces from heritage collections and archives to tell us a range of stories about a century of social design.
Thursday Night Detour
Every Thursday night a Detour Guide takes you on a free Detour through one of the exhibitions on display at Het Nieuwe Instituut. Discover design, digital culture and architecture from the perspective of your guide. Every Detour is different: you might end up working on a joint choreography or designing a space for insects.
