Since the period of post-war reconstruction, Rotterdam has had a characteristic urban culture that has been expressed through art, architecture and other cultural manifestations: avant-garde, DIY, modernist, spatial and experimental. But Rotterdam is changing. It is no longer the raw, barren, robust, inhospitable city that we know from the immediate post-war years. Is Rotterdam starting to look more like other cities, in which all shops and interiors ascend into 'Airspace'? And what does this mean for the city's characteristic urban culture? Should we be mourning it?
