Céline Condorelli - Support Structures

Céline Condorelli delivered the keynote lecture for The Irritant Principle of Renewal: 100 Years Aldo & Hannie van Eyck, the 2018 iteration of the annual conference organised by the Jaap Bakema Study Centre.

Céline Condorelli is a London and Lisbon-based artist and teacher. Her work is situated between visual art, education and curatorial practice. Some of her recent projects were inspired by Aldo van Eyck's playgrounds, while others deal with the legacies of other influential architects such as Lina Bo Bardi, Franco Albini or Charles & Ray Eames. Her artworks are simultaneously sculptures and public spaces -- artworks that can be inhabited, sat upon, rested on, allowing an intimacy with form that's not normally allowed with cultural objects.

Together with artist-curator Gavin Wade, she initiated the Support Structure project, which aimed to design and create a universally adaptable support structure that would approach the specific rather than the generic. Condorelli is also a co-founder of Eastside Projects, the exhibition space in Birmingham, which seeks to question the role and function of art and artists in society, by proposing cultural space as a social and collective construction.

The conference _The Irritant Principle of Renewal_ took place from 28 to 30 November.
