Sunday Scroll with Joëlle, 5 April 2020.
Joëlle is mad about visual art. She is a passionate maker, exhibition-goer and art teacher, as well as the proud owner of a sizeable collection of art books.
"I like to draw the visitor right into my story. My aim is to make people enthusiastic and give them a feeling of satisfaction when they leave."
Artist Joëlle Hoogendoorn hosted this week's Sunday Scroll (5 April) on Facebook Live. This digital detour is an exploration of themes in The Hoodie exhibition that speak to her as a creator. Her scroll focused on the representation of the hoodie in visual art.
The Hoodie
Most of us own one. The hoodie is everywhere: from the street to the sidelines of every sports field, and from the catwalk to the office and the studio. For some of us, the hoodie is just a casual, comfortable thing to wear, but for others it comes with all kinds of unavoidable social and cultural baggage. You might even say that it's the last political garment in Western fashion. In The Hoodie exhibition, the hoodie is central - as storyteller and bearer of a wide range of different meanings.
