Sugar: A Cosmology

The industrialised farming of sugar since the 15th century has changed not only what we eat and how we enjoy it, but completely restructured our society, economy, ecology, culture, and even bodies and minds. Through a series of workshops, an alternative meaning of sugar - a deceptively innocent, ubiquitous edible crystal and designed food stuff - will be co-developed and spread like a rhizome.

"The project is an inquiry into how we can redesign modernity/coloniality's knowledge-making structures, and what happens to a design when we redesign its meaning. Looking at human history from a non-anthropocentric perspective makes us aware of reality as a designed paradigm in which we operate."

Nadine Botha
