Steven Kamperman Performs his Maison Moderne
On the opening weekend of Rotterdam Architecture Month, Steven Kamperman will take us on a musical exploration of the atelier home of Nelly and Theo van Doesburg in Meudon-Val-Fleury. It was during a residency at this Maison Moderne that Kamperman wrote his suite of the same name. In the spirit of the Van Doesburgs, the clarinettist and composer will perform his “groovy chamber music with a touch of Dada” live, accompanied by anecdotes and colourful images.
1 June 2024 11:00 - 15:00
Steven Kamperman composed Maison Moderne, at the intersection of contemporary composed music and jazz, during a four-month residency at the Van Doesburg House and recorded it there. Kamperman was inspired by the house and the artist’s life story and passions. As we listen to L’entrée, he takes us through the Grand Atelier to La Chaufferie, with a number of interludes in which he reflects on important moments in Van Doesburg’s life, such as his meeting with the artist – and enthusiastic dancer! – Piet Mondriaan.
