The Spoon, the Bowl and the Knife

The Swedish documentary The Spoon, the Bowl and the Knife tells the story of the traditional Scandinavian craft of woodcarving based on the life and work of the famous Swedish woodcarver Wille Sundqvist.

From Saturday 19 July until Sunday 10 August, the Swedish documentary The Spoon, the Bowl and the Knife can be viewed for free at Het Nieuwe Institute. The film tells the story of the traditional Scandinavian craft of woodcarving based on the life and work of the famous Swedish woodcarver Wille Sundqvist. Jögge Sundqvist, the maker of the film and the son of Wille, documents a number of special grips that Wille uses in his craft. A film for true wood lovers and upcoming woodcarvers!

Wille Sundqvist

Wille Sundqvist, who comes from the Swedish region of Västerbotten, is an internationally renowned woodcarver, and even at very old age still active in his profession. He is best known for his traditionally carved spoons and spiraled bowls with inscriptions, but also for his dedication and willingness to share his knowledge.

Jögge Sundqvist

Jögge learned the craft of woodcarving from his father and has been dedicated to keep the tradition alive through his company surolle since 1999. One year ago he attempted to get funding for his documentary through Kickstarter, and with great success. There has been much interest in the film in Europe and the United States ever since.
