The School of the FutureThe School of the Future

In the past months the young researchers and designers of YoutDem worked on 'The School of the Future'. Their research began with the question on how to strengthen and cultivate a learning practice that is of now and of this place through imagination and design-power. Together they researched learning environments where alternatives forms of knowledge production and transfer of knowledge are centralised, after which they made comparisons to mainstream education, with the goal to work towards a decolonial and more flexible educational practice. During this evening they will present their results and take the audience along through their design process.

YoutDem aims to make the dynamic but often precarious ecologies where youth culture is loved more sustainable. It is a platform for and by young people, and the development of young cultural makers is its central focus. The dynamic and informal character of youth culture is linked to the space offered by the Nieuwe Instituut for research and experimentation through the programme Tussenruimte (multi-year collaboration with Concrete Blossom). Inspired by the institute's substantive programming, YoutDem develops public programming through which they simultaneously develop their design practice.
