Roundtable #4: Building
In this roundtable, we aim to bring together an intergenerational group of feminist voices in the building profession to exchange ideas on collective learning strategies. What does it mean to build and enact a 'feminist' (professional) practice? How has architecture and building practice acted to exclude a feminine, feminist, and queer practice?
18 September 2022 14:30 - 16:30
The traces of feminist builders and building networks, their artefacts, and their tacit forms of skill sharing and applying knowledge, have only recently begun to be recognised as worthwhile additions to (architecture) archives, as legacies that fundamentally opened and contributed to the 'built environment'. Through the work of feminist actors in building, housing, and planning, we can recount timelines of emancipatory struggles, as well as the malleability of a 'feminist' identity in architecture and (urban) planning. In this roundtable, we are interested in gathering together an intergenerational group of feminist voices in the building profession, to exchange ideas aboutj strategies of collective learning and survival, and making a 'feminist' (professional) practice over the decades - indispensable for coming generations.
