Rise and Shine
4 December 2015 14:00 - 8 December 2015 17:30
Het Nieuwe Instituut organised the Dutch entries for the São Paulo, Shenzhen and Venice architecture biennales: three opportunities to showcase Dutch architecture and to address spatial issues. The Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture in Shenzhen runned from 4 December 2015 until 28 February 2016. The ten Dutch presentations were explored in a public events programme consisting of an installation and a symposium.
The installation Rise & Shine gave the Dutch participants an opportunity to speak. The DDG (Design Displacement Group) team will document, interview and respond to the biennale participants and send out live broadcasts. The symposium created a dialogue between Dutch and Chinese experts in architecture and urbanism and allow them to share their theories and practical experience.
The Dutch participants were AP + E (Architecture Practice + Experimentation), Iwan Baan, Crimson Architectural Historians, Droog Design (Mark van der Net, Jan Rothuizen, Ester van der Wiel, Imme van der Haak, Fanny Hofstra and the Design Academy Eindhoven), INTI (International New Town Institute), Land+Civilization Compositions, Rezone, Rob Voerman, Studio Makkink & Bey, and Superuse Studios.
Rise & Shine was initiated by Het Nieuwe Instituut and the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou and is organised by Bureau Europa, the Design Displacement Group and the Institute of Relevant Studies.
