Propaganda Art Today
2 June 2018 11:00 - 18:30
On 2 June 2018, Het Nieuwe Instituut hosted an international conference in Rotterdam on contemporary propaganda art. The conference brought together artists, activists, theorists, filmmakers, and political representatives to map the multitude of propagandas that shape our world today. From the culture wars of the alt-right to the new popular imaginations that have emerged from recent pan-European movements and stateless insurgencies: Propaganda Art Today introduced the public to the various competing types of propaganda art in the 21st century.
The conference Propaganda Art Today was organised in conjunction with Staal's exhibition-project _Steve Bannon: A Propaganda Retrospective_.
With: Maria Hlavajova (director BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht), Srećko Horvat (philosopher, co-founder DiEM25), Chris Keulemans (writer and journalist), Szabolcs KissPál (artist), Charl Landvreugd (artist), Julie de Lima (National Democratic Front of the Philippines), Sven Lütticken (art historian), Angela Nagle (author Kill All Normies), Mitchell Esajas and Jessica de Abreu (co-founders New Urban Collective), Theo Prodromidis (artist), Laura Raicovich (writer and art worker), and Vincent W.J. van Gerven Oei (philologist and publisher).
