The New Garden is a public space with an ecological system of herbs, shrubs, animals and birds. Artist/designer Frank Bruggeman and ecological horticulturalist Hans Engelbrecht planted the garden in the spring of 2015 on the grounds around Het Nieuwe Instituut. The garden is a temporary landscape like those that spring up on wastelands and vacant inner-city plots. Bruggeman and Engelbrecht have selected plants that are suited to these specific circumstances. This flora is presented in a photo reportage.

Frank Bruggeman

The work of the visual artist Frank Bruggeman has its origins in his fascination for plant nature. In his objects and installations he investigates the dividing line between plant culture and nature.

Hans Engelbrecht

De Groene Stap is aesthetically interwoven with personal wishes, cultural history, ecology and the environment. This creates a coherent garden, or a landscape place where there is much to enjoy and discover, and in which nature and natural processes play an important role.

Pop-in expo

Bi-weekly changing presentations in the Het Nieuwe Instituut's foyer. A controversial new design, sensational research, work by an emerging talent or a new acquisition for the State Archive for Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning are given a place in the spotlight.
