Play: Museumpark
24 October 2015 14:30 - 16:30
Rotterdam's Museumpark was the focus of much attention. The reason was the plan to locate a new Museum Boijmans van Beuningen public art depot there, and the public-space master plan by Gustafson Porter. Rotterdam City Council voted in favour of the public art depot in Museumpark, making the question 'What does Rotterdam want with Museumpark?' highly topical once more.
In 2014 AIR architecture centre and Het Nieuwe Instituut invited Petra Blaisse (Inside Out) and a number of other designers to come and talk about the original park design. A year on, it's time to consider Museumpark from a new perspective.
Het Nieuwe Instituut developed the idea of Playful Park: a serious game taking Rotterdam's much-discussed Museumpark as its subject. The aim of the game was to get the different parties to collectively arrive at new ideas for the future design and use of the park. On 24 October 2015 Het Nieuwe Instituut organised a gaming workshop to try to formulate over several rounds a number of practicable guidelines: Game Rules for Museumpark.
The public - park user, resident, creative or passerby - was invited to take part, either as audience or player. What should a city park be? Did you have good ideas or were you just curious about your fellow residents' opinions? Everyone was welcome.
Léon van Geest (founder of Archiguides) and Marcus Vlaar (RANJ serious games) led the workshop.
