Pina Issue 1: Possibilities of Exhibition Design
For the launch of the first issue of the magazine Pina, the Nieuwe Instituut hosts an artist talk by Asad Raza and a panel talk where invited guests Aric Chen, Yolande Zola Zoli van der Heide join Raza in a conversation about Exhibition Design. Pina is a new exhibition space in the form of a magazine in print. It commissions two contemporary artists per issue and invites them to create an exhibition that only takes place on the magazine’s pages. The evening is moderated by Catalina Imizcoz.
31 October 2024 18:30 - 20:00
Raza presents his exhibition in Pina #1, ‘Array’. It narrates the journeys of the two basic elements that come together to make it happen: light and paper. The artist expands on the process of the making-of as well as the conceptual framework of ‘Array’– ranging from photons and cosmic microwave backgrounds to the intricacies of representationalism and inseparability.
The following panel and Q&A dive into an interdisciplinary approach to the possibilities of exhibition design. Across editorial, architectural, design and curatorial practices, the panel presents examples and perspectives on the multiplicity and potential that lies within exhibitions and the way their spaces are configured. Ideas around worldbuilding, storytelling and imagination are explored.
The event is followed by drinks and nibbles in the Nieuwe Café.
