Het Nieuwe Instituut warmly invited you to the opening of four exhibitions: 1:1 Period Rooms by Andreas Angelidakis, PLASTIC: Promises of a Home-Made Future, Sonneveld House²: Intervention by Inside Outside / Petra Blaisse, and
Surprising Finds from the Collection #3: The Netherlands Build in Brick. You were welcome on Saturday 31 January 2015 from 4 pm onwards for a programme of lectures, presentations and debates. After the opening performance, the staff of Het Nieuwe Instituut welcomed visitors to the various exhibitions.

Het Nieuwe Instituut welcomed you to the opening of four exhibitions from 4 pm on. Each exhibition features its own programme:

1:1 Period Rooms by Andreas Angelidakis
4:15 - 4:35 Conversation between Andreas Angelidakis, artist and installation designer, and the moderator about the idea and design for the installation. This conversation will be in English.
4:45 - 5:05 Conversation between Paul Spies (director of Amsterdam Museum) and Guus Beumer (director of Het Nieuwe Instituut) about the period rooms and why the institute wants the show them again.

Plastic: Promises of a Home-Made Future
4:15 - 4:30 Short guided tour of the exhibition with curator Tal Erez.
4:45 - 5:15 Conversation between Philippe Decelle, engineer-artist and fanatic collector of plastic and curator Tal Erez about their fascination for plastic and the wondrous world of plastic. This conversation will be in English.

Sonneveld House2
4:15 - 4:45 Conversation between the multitalented Petra Blaisse (designer of the intervention in Sonneveld House), Matthew Stadler, writer and fellow of Het Nieuwe Instituut, and Robert Thiemann (editor-in-chief of Frame magazine) about designing for interiors and the importance of the interior.
5:00 - 5:15 Short guided tour of the exhibition with conservator Hetty Berens

Surprising Finds from the Collection #3: The Netherlands Build in Brick
4:15 - 4:30 Short guided tour of the exhibition with curator Alfred Marks.
4:45 - 5:15 Continuous massages in a special massage studio in the exhibition space, a rotating brick crusher, and an interactive performance.

Visitors young and old were able to experiment all afternoon on the Deck with 3D print pens (a hand-sized 3D printer), build anything they want with special LEGO blocks, and test out the new educational iPad-apps.

At around 5:30 there was a performance specially created for the opening. Director Guus Beumer then formally opened the exhibitions with a short speech. Afterwards, guests were able to visit the exhibitions at their leisure, meet one another and enjoy a snack and drink.
Inside the exhibitions, students from the University of Amsterdam continued constructing a period room, the Perpetual Plastic Project helped you transform plastic waste into printable filament again, massages are available in a special studio, and you were able to admire the intervention by Petra Blaisse in Sonneveld House (note: owing to limited capacity, time slots will apply).
