Official opening of SIDELINED — Dutch Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia
On Thursday 8 May, the opening takes place of SIDELINED: A Space to Rethink Togetherness, the official Dutch contribution to the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The presentation in the Rietveld Pavilion will be opened during the Biennale’s pre-opening days by Dewi van de Weerd, Ambassador for International Cultural Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This event takes place during the pre-opening days (8-9 May) of the Biënnale Architettura 2025. To access the Giardini, where the Dutch Pavilion is located, you require either valid accreditation, a pre-opening ticket of the Biennale, or the organisation's Biennale Card. Please note that your RSVP to this event does not include the required entry ticket.
About SIDELINED: A Space to Rethink Togetherness
How can architecture resist exclusionary social norms and create spaces that nurture new ways of coexisting? SIDELINED: A Space to Rethink Togetherness, curated by Amanda Pinatih, explores this question with social designer Gabriel Fontana, who investigates social dynamics through a sports lens. In the pavilion, which will be transformed into a sports bar, visitors are encouraged to subvert traditional norms and change the rules of the game. Read more about SIDELINED.
The day after the official opening of the Pavilion, on Friday 9 May, Gabriel Fontana presents a live version of Multiform — one of the games featured in the exhibition — in collaboration with Associazione Sportiva Sant’Elena. This public event takes place at the basketball court at Viale IV Novembre, Sant’Elena in Venice, located just outside the Giardini, on Friday 9 May, from 4:00-5:00 PM. The event is supported by the Embassy and Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is free to attend.
