O. Festival First Dates: Kitty Lai Ngok-man & Kijan
With First Dates, the O. Festival for Opera. Music. Theatre. brings together singers from different musical worlds and challenges them to perform together for the first time. In the Nieuwe Instituut, soprano Kitty Lai Ngok-man from Hong Kong and singer Kijan from Southern Kurdistan meet for the first time and take each other and the audience along for an exciting performance.

Kitty Lai Ngok-man
Kitty Lai Ngok-man is a young soprano from Hong Kong. She began her musical education with violin lessons at the age of six. She is currently studying early music vocal studies at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, with Rita Dams and Noa Frenkel. Under the guidance of Jill Feldman, Dorothée Mields, Peter Kooij, Pascal Bertin and Robin Blaze, she has developed a keen interest in Baroque music.
Kijan
Kijan grew up in Southern Kurdistan in a family full of musicians. In October 2020, she moved with her family to the Netherlands. Since graduating from the conservatory she has been giving concerts and singing lessons, writing and producing her own music, and has been a judge on various television programmes. Kijan also performs in the theatrical productions of Women Connected.

O. Festival is an international festival with a programme full of surprises: from top-class performers to typically Rotterdamse and adventurous location projects. During O. 2024, more than 60 performances and concerts will take place at 30 venues throughout Rotterdam, from works in progress to world premieres by young and more established names.
