Het Nieuwe Instituut presents the New Material Award at Atelier Clerici from 4 to 9 April, celebrating the designs of 18 makers during the international design week in Milan.

The New Material Award brings together the work of eighteen designers and artists in the Netherlands who are pushing the boundaries of material potentials.** **The exhibition presents a rich tapestry of research, experimentation and transformation that celebrates the role of the designer. Following the successful awards ceremony during the last Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, Het Nieuwe Instituut is giving the designers an international podium in Milan to spark debate and imagination.
The awards ceremony took place during Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. The winner of the New Material Award was Olivier van Herpt and the winner of the New Material Fellowship was Diana Scherer. The New Material Award is a joint venture between Stichting DOEN, Fonds Kwadraat and Het Nieuwe Instituut.

New Material Fellow Diana Scherer
Alongside the New Material Award exhibition, Het Nieuwe Instituut is shining the spotlight on the New Material Fellow, Diana Scherer. She was awarded the fellowship for her project Interwoven, in which she manipulates plant roots to create a textile-like material. Het Nieuwe Instituut is providing mentorship and support for the further development of her project and is featuring her work in a solo presentation at Atelier Clerici.
International Materials & Design Network
Het Nieuwe Instituut founded the International Materials & Design Network to organise collaborative projects with international partner organisations, to enable knowledge exchange on innovation in materials, design and sustainability, and to help talented Dutch designers in this field to expand their international network.
