Sonneveld House

House Museums of the Future

This year, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Sonneveld House’s new life as a house museum. It is one of the finest examples of a Nieuwe Bouwen residence. To mark this anniversary, three curators have been invited to discuss the future of house museums.

The opening of Sonneveld House in 2001 coincided with several other developments regarding house museums. For example, the International Committee for Historic House Museums (ICOM DEMHIST) was established in 1999, and the Rietveld Schröder House was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many other house museums also opened their doors during this period.

House museums continue to capture the imagination. After 25 years, Sonneveld House remains a popular destination for a broad national and international audience. But how can house museums remain relevant in the future? In three inspiring conversations, we will explore how house museums can reinvent themselves, add new perspectives and introduce fresh presentation methods.

Speakers are Natalie Dubois (Curator of Design and the Rietveld Schröder House), Wyke Sybesma (Curator of decorative arts and domestic culture and of Huis van Gijn) and Stefanie Korrel (Curator of Collections and Sonneveld House at Nieuwe Instituut).

You are cordially invited to join us for a drink afterwards.

Language: Dutch | Location: Nieuwe Instituut | Tickets: 7,50.
