Can I speak with the manager, please?
The cultural sector is in flux. Change and leadership are necessary and can happen at any level in the organisation. Especially early career professionals want to break through barriers and change existing structures. They want to experiment and be more inclusive, both when it comes to programming and staff hires. Sometimes they achieve this from within a traditional organisation, but sometimes they are freelancers or simply set up their own platform or project. This is hard work, it asks for vision, stamina and a strong network. And even then it's not easy to truely change things. How can you become a leader, when you are not in charge?
21 November 2019 19:00 - 21:00
Where do you start? How can you start your leadership journey and how do you create a 'safety net' for yourself? What qualities are needed for your work, idea or beliefs to have an impact?
How do you make space for reflection? The workload is immense, job security almost non-existent and there is so much competition out there. It's tempting to focus on making a good impression, keeping your head down and just doing the work. But if you want to create change, you will need to do more. It is important to gather with peers, share ideas and reflect on your work. How can we make time for reflective practice?
How do you keep going? Change doesn't happen overnight and you will meet resistance along the way. How can you prepare yourself for what lies ahead, how do you keep motivated and avoid burn-out? How can you keep yourself going and achieve change one little step at the time?
