Lewis Biggs: Art-Led Urbanism
3 May 2017 19:15 - 20:30
Lewis Biggs talk will illustrate art-led urbanism, using existing examples from Folkestone Artworks Collection and previewing the forthcoming Folkestone Triennial (2 September - 5 November 2017), of which Biggs is curator.
Since stepping down as director of Tate Liverpool to take on the role of artistic director and CEO of Liverpool Biennial in 2000, Biggs has worked to create programmes that integrate visual-arts thinking and practice with an urbanist aim and awareness. In the town of Folkestone, UK, the first three editions of the Folkestone Triennials have 'produced' new public spaces and pathways while enriching and reinforcing the civic awareness of the population.
As part of his independent research, Lewis Biggs will visit the Netherlands between 1 and 5 May 2017 as part of the Mondriaan Fund visitors' programme.
