Yes, You Do Have Something to Hide
23 February 2017 19:30 - 21:30
Private companies and the authorities alike know an increasing amount of information about more and more of us every day. We see personalised ads online, and local government tells us, "We're listening." But it doesn't stop there. Every one of us is responsible for guarding his or her own privacy. But how can we do that these days? What can municipalities and other institutions do to help? And why does it matter so much?

With Dimitri Tokmetzis, investigative journalist Maurits Martijn wrote the book _Je hebt wél iets te verbergen _("Yes, You Do Have Something to Hide"). In it, they show why privacy is the most imperilled human right of our time.
A City as Smart as Its Citizens
Eindhoven aims to be a smart society - a city where technology helps to bring residents together, enables us to have some control over our environment, and helps residents and local government to work together. But how can we achieve this? What exactly does it mean? And are there examples to show us how it should and shouldn't be done?
In the event series A City as Smart as Its Citizens, we'll examine different aspects of the smart society. Each evening will begin with a talk by a speaker from the Netherlands or abroad. Then the audience and special guests will discuss how the issue under discussion plays out in Eindhoven.
The series is organised by the DATAstudio Eindhoven, an initiative of the city of Eindhoven and Het Nieuwe Instituut that looks at how the smart city can become a truly smart society.
