IFFR in Het Nieuwe Instituut: Films by Heinz Emigholz
From 22 January until 2 February the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) took place. Het Nieuwe Instituut has screened 6 movies from the German experimental film director Heinz Emigholz.
22 January 2014 10:00 - 2 February 2014 17:00
As part of the exhibition 1:1 Sets for Erwin Olaf & Bekleidung Emigholz' films D'Annunzio's Cave and Ornament and Crime (by Adolf Loos) were screened non stop in the auditorium. D'Annunzio's Cave was the only part [of Photography and Beyond] devoted to architecture Emigholz genuinely loathes: Gabriele d'Annunzio's Villa Cargnacco. Edited from four independent yet parallel eight-hour sessions inside the beast, it was a unique example of formalist outrage. One of Emigholz's finest works. [source: IFFR website].
In Ornament and Crime, Emigholz shows 27 still-existing buildings and interiors by Austrian architect Adolf Loos in order of their construction. His vehement turn against ornamentation on buildings triggered a controversy in architectural theory.
Besides this free programme, Het Nieuwe Instituut was screening four other films from the oeuvre of Emigholz on 25, 26, 28, and 29 January at 2PM. See the links below for more information on each title.
25 January: Sense of Architecture
26 January: A Series of Thoughts
28 January: The Basis of Make-Up I-III
29 January: The Formative Years I-II
