I See That I See What You Don’t See
Join Het Nieuwe Instituut for the launch of 'I See That I See What You Don't See', a publication that brings together a variety of authors reflecting on darkness. The book launch will be audiocast live on 21 December, the shortest day of the year, at sunset (16:32 CET). Contributions by artist/researcher Danilo Correale, poet Momtaza Mehri, The Academy of Urban Astronauts, composer Zeger de Vos, yoga teacher/healer Mie Jorgensen and researcher Setareh Noorani reading an essay by Saidiya Hartman will guide you through cosmic, automated and political environments.

_I See That I See What You Don't See _presents a layered, non-binary notion of darkness. Navigating through cosmic, automated and seemingly invisible environments, this publication looks into what we do not generally get - or choose - to see, as well as the relationship between the possibility of seeing and forms of oppression and emancipation.
In this book, the exercise of seeing and revealing what generally remains concealed purposely avoids the metaphor of light as wisdom and knowledge. Instead, the various contributions aim for an understanding of the contrasting effects of light access, deprivation and overexposure on different bodies: the influence of radiation on human and non-human behaviours; the coexistence with the invisible yet pervasive architecture of the digital; the perception of instances of synchronicity with the cosmos; and the role of design in these areas.
After presentations at the Milan Triennale and in our own galleries in Rotterdam, this publication brings together some of the learnings from the exhibitions and the I See That I See What You Don't See programme, but also adds new voices and stories. I See That I See What You Don't See is available via NAi Booksellers.
