Europe has a thriving cultural conference scene. You could attend an inspiring event almost every month. In theory, that is. The reality for most museum staff and freelancers is of course: No time. No money. But fear not! Night Shift will kick off the new cultural season with a summary of the most fun, interesting and inspirational conferences that took place in Europe this year.

MuseumCamp is a three-day program in which museum and heritage professionals together explore the boundaries of the profession and challenge each other. Last June the fourth Dutch edition took place in the coolest national museum of the Netherlands, the Muiderslot! The program included inspiration sessions by professionals from both within and outside the museum sector, creative workshops and more. Vera Weterings, Marketing and Communications Officer at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave and Events Officer at CBG | Center for Family History, camped at Muiderslot and will share her experiences.

In January of this year, the annual REMIX Summit took place in London, and** **Rianne Schoonderbeek, Curator of Education at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen - was there. REMIX focusses on the intersection of culture, technology and entrepreneurship, and investigates the future of creative and cultural industries. The program was very diverse and inspiring, in large part because not all speakers and examples came from the museum world. The conference thus offered a broader and refreshing perspective on the possibilities of technology in the cultural sector and the opportunities that an entrepreneurial attitude can offer.

Communicating the Arts (formerly Communicating the Museum) once started as an international forum on communication within the cultural field, but has since adopted a broader focus. This year's edition in Copenhagen centered on building partnerships, co-creation and cooperation. Laurin Ivetic, Web Specialist and Digital Projects at IFFR, came back full of inspiration and will share his highlights of the conference with us.

MuseumNext Europe took place in London this year, and had as theme Make Change Happen. Speakers from all over the world shared the Big Changes they were involved in, or still are. Merel van der Vaart, owner of Muse - Mensen & Musea and Curator of City History at the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam went to the conference. She was most inspired by the stories that focused on the impact that working on change has on the individual. Where do you begin? How do you set limits and how do you keep it up? During this kick-off of the new Night Shift season, Merel will share with us what she learned at MuseumNext.

Night Shift organises a monthly debate night for the cultural sector. Every third Thursday of the month, we come together in Rotterdam to share experiences, be inspired and get to know new people. Let's make the cultural sector more beautiful, exciting and inclusive.

Night Shift is about people. How do we relate to our visitors, local residents and colleagues? Each month we discuss a different topical theme. The focus lies on heritage institutions, galleries and museums, but we like to look beyond what's right in front of us and prefer to also engage with other disciplines, such as the theater, libraries and archives.

The language of Night Shift evenings is mainly Dutch.
