Gear UpGear Up

Gear Up shows speculative designs with an activist stance. These works have been developed by Interaction Design students at ArtEZ during an Information Superiority masterclass by Arif Kornweitz.

All participating designers are students of the Interaction Design programme at the Academy of Art & Design in Arnhem: Bente Brunia, Laura van Duist, Oscar van Leest, Jelle Reith, Merel Peters, Arthur Duindam, Tycho Kilsdonk and Thomas Hoek. They have developed these works during the third year of their Bachelor's. The Interaction Design programme is headed by visual artist Martijn van Boven.

Arif Kornweitz researches the implications of technological innovation, specifically the effects of space-time collapsing technologies, their relation to human rights and the visual regimes enabling these technologies. Arif is the co-founder of Ja Ja Ja Nee Nee Nee, an online radio station dedicated to the arts. Arif holds an MSc in Conflict Resolution & Governance from the University of Amsterdam.

Bi-weekly presentations in the foyer, spotlighting a controversial new design, sensational research, work by an emerging talent or a new acquisition for the State Archive for Dutch Architecture and Urban Planning.
