Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week 2025
Dedicated to promoting sustainable fashion and a circular fashion economy, Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week (DSFW) aims to transform the fashion system from the bottom up by connecting innovation, people, brands and initiatives. The main venue for the Rotterdam edition of DSFW 2025 is the Nieuwe Instituut, which hosts several events and workshops.

1. DAIR design presents: ICONIC
The official launch event of Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week will be opened by Rotterdam’s first fashion mayor, Odair Pereira.
DAIR Design invites you to the launch of their most daring collection yet: ICONIC. DAIR is known for turning fashion into a real experience. Creativity, personality and stories will come to life on the catwalk.

2. Fabrix presents: The Future of Fashion and Textiles
The future is green, inclusive, democratic, digital and resilient. This also applies to the fashion and textile sector. But how can this be put this into practice?
Nine organisations are collaborating on the Fabrix project, including Delft University of Technology, Erasmus University Rotterdam and the Municipality of Rotterdam. Together they research, connect and test new ideas.
During this session, initial results from the past year and a half are presented, but we will also look ahead. What challenges lie ahead and what role can local ecosystems play? Special attention will be given to collaboration between local entrepreneurs, researchers, policymakers and facilitators.

3. Linen Beyond Fashion Show #1 An Ode to Flax
In 2024, local cooperative Buijtenland van Rhoon, nature-inclusive farmers Van de Bilt Zaden & Vlas and textile expert Maaike Gottschal of Textielfabrique came together for the Linen Beyond Fashion project. The goal: to reuse flax in the textile supply chain.
Over the past year, three designers have been working on their own flax-based creations using flax from Rhoon. On Friday 10 October, they present their designs for the first time at the Linen Beyond Fashion Show. This event celebrates flax and showcases the potential of local and sustainable textiles.

4. Linen Beyond Fashion Exhibition
Maaike Gottschal’s samples and linen work is on display at the Linen Beyond Fashion exhibition, from 8 to 12 October at the Nieuwe Instituut. Final designs by Florian Regtien, the talents of House of Denim/Jeanschool, and Petra Laaper will be added to the exhibition after the unveiling on 10 October.

5. Communication with Impact: How to Prevent Greenwashing?
How can you communicate about the sustainability of your fashion brand honestly and clearly? Consider using recycling, making timeless designs, producing locally and using materials with a lower environmental impact. In this workshop, Gerbrich Kozijn shows how clothing companies can communicate their sustainable credentials clearly, without falling into the trap of greenwashing.
Gerbrich Kozijn is a lawyer and strategist specialising in sustainability and anti-greenwashing. She advises companies, lectures and leads training sessions with a focus on the clothing sector.

6. Facts and Fiction: Sustainability and Greenwashing in Fashion
In a world full of ‘green’ labels and clever marketing, Gebrich Kozijn teaches you how to make more conscious choices. Discover what greenwashing is, how to recognise it, and which sustainability claims can be trusted.

7. Making and Dyeing Sustainable Lingerie with Fungal Pigments
Fabulous Fungi and Daisy Louise Lingerie are organising a unique workshop in which participants can learn how to sustainably produce their own lingerie, making items from deadstock materials or recycled lace and then dyeing them.
The material is infused with environmentally friendly fungal pigments to create a sustainable alternative to second-hand lingerie, which creates a personalised, sustainable and wearable garment.

8. Workshop Brain Styling
Why does your grandmother’s blouse feel so comforting? Why does wearing a black dress give you confidence? Clothes evoke feelings and influence how you behave. This phenomenon is called enclothed cognition. In this workshop, you learn how to use this psychological phenomenon to enhance your personal style.
- We examine one of your favourite garments from the perspective of fashion psychology.
- You are getting creative, doing reflections both individually and in a group.
- You will make a fashion collage and receive practical tips for managing your wardrobe strategically. Please bring a cherished item of clothing, or a photo of it.
There is a maximum of 15 participants per time slot.
