The talk, Reimagining the Design Week Platform, is part of the CIVICITY presentation by the Nieuwe Instituut and cheFare, which was curated by Collective Works and is on display during Milan Design Week. Rather than focusing solely on products, CIVICITY showcases design as a tool for engagement. It demonstrates how designers can facilitate inclusive processes, reveal hidden networks and collaborate with communities to create a lasting impact.

Pete Fung and Studio Method, CIVICITY 2025’s resident designers, will present the outcomes of their residencies in Milan’s Chiaravalle and Adriano neighbourhoods. They will be joined by the 2026 residents Demo- practice and Ned Kaar, who will share their initial findings from the beginning of their residency cycle. There will also be an exchange of experiences and insights with Milan-based designers Studio Latte and Frakas. The conversation will be moderated by Angela Rui.

CIVICITY is part of the Redesigning Design Weeks project by the Nieuwe Instituut, which invites designers to explore alternative ways of engaging with the city and its communities. CIVICITY explores social and civic design that is rooted in local needs and seeks to create meaningful and enduring outcomes within and beyond the context of Milan Design Week.
