On 20 May Het Nieuwe Instituut hosted the cultural talk show De Derde Dinsdag. With short interviews, performances, film previews, drama performances and live music, this 90-minute show offered a high-speed update on cultural events in Rotterdam.

De Derde Dinsdag took place one day before the opening of the Dutch Electronic Arts Festival (DEAF). The programme of the evening therefore also highlighted the festival. DEAF Biennale 2014 took place from May 21 to 24. The main exhibition of the festival was presented at Het Nieuwe Instituut through June 9.

Each edition of De Derde Dinsdag features a special guest. On this occasion, presenter Anna Visser welcomed Maarten van Veen, general director of the DoelenEnsemble. What does he do, why in Rotterdam, what is fun about Rotterdam, what is not, and what could be better? He will tell his personal story, partly based on an object he is bringing along.

Preview of the exhibition Social Image. Until June 2014, artists were working with the theme Social Image, partly based on exchanges with Internet pioneer JODI and Ryan McNamara, winner of Performa 2013 in New York.

De Derde Dinsdag took place during the Opera Days, from May 17 to 25 at De Doelen, Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Ro Theater and Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art. The evening therefore also addressed opera.

A presentation of various talents of the Writers School of Vers #2. Vers #2, which started in October 2013, has selected eight promising writers from a big number of enthusiastic and talented applicants. During six months, Pim Wiersinga guided these talents in the realisation of a publication.

A preview of the lunchtime show Samurai with Jack Wouterse and Yahja Gaier. Samurai was an absurd performance about the will to perform and alarm clocks that do not work. It entails a short presentation about conformism and choice stress. Prior to the show you can have lunch at the foyer, a great moment of relaxation during the (working) day. On show from May 14 to June 8 at Ro Theater and June 13 to 22 at Oerol Festival, Terschelling.

De Derde Dinsdag is an initiative by Kunstblock (Showroom MAMA, TENT CBK Rotterdam, V2, Witte de With and WORM), MAAS theatre and dance, Ro Theater, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Productiehuis Rotterdam / Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Dansateliers and De Doelen. Each third Tuesday of the month this live show is hosted at a different cultural venue in the city.
