Redesigning Design Weeks at DDW 2025

During Dutch Design Week 2025, the Nieuwe Instituut continues its research into the social and environmental impact of large-scale design events. Resident designers Pete Fung and Studio Method share insights from Milan, where the Redesigning Design Weeks project was launched six months earlier. This is followed by a conversation with Miriam van der Lubbe and designer Kornelia Dimitrova about Dutch Design Week and Eindhoven. How can the design scene in Eindhoven further develop the toolkit for reimagined design weeks? The evening will be moderated by Nadia Troeman, Programme Manager at the Nieuwe Instituut.

CIVICITY at Milan Design Week 2025.

Redesigning Design Weeks

Nieuwe Instituut is an active participant in major international design events such as Milan Design Week and Dutch Design Week. Recognising the profound impact that such events can have on host cities, contributing to problems such as overtourism, pollution, rising housing costs and social inequality, the institute is calling on its partners and other participants to critically examine the way they structure their contributions.

The first edition of Redesigning Design Weeks, called CIVICITY, was launched in Milan, where resident designers Pete Fung and Studio-Method developed a toolkit for redesigning design weeks. At the Eindhoven event, their findings form the starting point for a discussion with local experts, including Miriam van der Lubbe (Creative Director of Dutch Design Week) about possible next steps in the Dutch context.
